Doolin is magical place and one of Ireland’s best loved villages. We have a few tips for you on how to make the most of your time in our village and are looking forward to welcoming you to the Rainbow Hostel!
Take your time in Doolin
The magic of Doolin is best experienced when you are not rushed. We highly recommend visitors to spend at least 3 days in in the village, but you can easily spend a week packed with amazing activities. The key is to take your time, relax and immerse yourself in the village.
Enjoy the nature, the wide open spaces and the lovely landscapes
Experience the contrasts of lush green fields, the rocky cliffs, the crashing waves, the views of the Cliffs of Moher and the Aran Islands, peaceful, yet wild.
Immerse yourself in a rousing traditional music session
Doolin is well known for its great wealth of traditional music. There are plenty music sessions to be found in the pubs nightly all year round. The village also hosts The Doolin Folk Festival in mid June every year and The Russell Memorial Weekend at the end of February. Read more about the music here.
Talk to the friendly locals
Doolin people are extremely warm and welcoming. Whether you’re out exploring during the day or enjoying a music session in the evening, don’t be shy to strike up a conversation with those you meet.
Make time for a spectacular Sunrise or Sunset
Experience a magical sunrise or sunset (depends on whether you’re up with the lark or a night owl), you won’t be sorry. Best vantage points are Killilagh Graveyard, Doolin Pier or the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre.
Enjoy the sky at night
At day’s end take the time to look up. On a clear night see if you can find ‘The Milky Way’, ‘The North Star’, ‘The Starry Plough’ etc., you’ll have great fun gazing at the stars here in Doolin.
Watch the cows munching in the green fields
This is a great way to experience the rural beauty of the village as the cows graze contently in the green open fields, full of wild flowers and lush grass.
Breath in the sea air
Go for a walk through the village to Doolin Pier. From there walk along the limestone rocks to the right of the pier. Listen to the ocean and breathe in the smells and the sounds and be in the moment.
Get on your bike
Pack a picnic and a rain jacket (just in case of the odd drop of rain!) and cycle the side roads and by roads surrounding the village at your own pace. Eat, read a book, have a snooze, the choice is yours.
Join the Doolin Sea Swimmers
‘Happiness comes in Waves’. Join this hardy group of locals as they brave the Atlantic waters off the pier, all year round.
